screen

An individual static frame or TV/monitor-sized background displayed on a TV or computer monitor. Can also describe a specific in-game interface. Players can quickly access the weapon selection screen by pressing the triangle button.

In older games, a screen was often the equivalent to an entire level, or a discrete sub-section of a level. In three-dimensional games, the notion of a screen is arbitrary, and the usage is discouraged.

Can also be used to describe a monitor or TV on which a game is played or as an abbreviation for a screenshot.

Example: In the original Legend of Zelda, players would walk to the edge of the screen before the game would scroll over to the next room.
