publisher

The company responsible for the financing, manufacturing and marketing of a videogame. Also often responsible for a game's distribution. See distributor.

Note that older publishers may now be defunct or subsumed as part of a currently- functioning publisher. In general, use the original publisher's name, and note the company's current lineage if context requires. See the Notable Companies appendix for a list of some defunct/acquired companies.
