build

Jargon.

A functional pre-release or released version of a game. Builds are used to test gameplay and gameplay components during development. At later stages of development, a developer may share builds to demonstrate the game. The final build of a game is often referred to as the gold master.

Example: Last year’s Tokyo Game Show allowed us to get hands-on time with builds of games that won't be released for at least another 12 months.

Also see: alpha, beta, gold master.
